Direct Vent vs. Up Vent (B-Vent) gas fireplaces
Direct Vent models have a sealed firebox that draws 100% outside air needed to fuel the fire. Kozy Heat Direct Vent models can be vented either vertically or horizontally using either rigid or flexible pipe. The heated air is forced out through the upper louvers into your home.
Up Vent models are atmospherically vented with double-wall metal B-vent pipe. B-vent is vented vertically to the outside, but it does not draw outside air for combustion. Kozy Heat no longer manufactures up vent models.
I have heard your fireplace will operate without electricity. Why will my gas fireplace continue to operate during a power outage when my furnace will not?
All Kozy Heat gas fireplaces are manufactured with a standing pilot, millivolt system as a standard feature. Standing pilots do not require electricity to generate power, whereas your furnace uses an electronic ignition. Therefore, a Kozy Heat gas fireplace is an excellent secondary heat source. (The optional fan requires a 110V current to operate, which is not necessary for the fireplace to fully function).
